Lovely Easter Bunny Wine Charm

Lovely Easter Bunny Wine Charm
Lovely Easter Bunny Wine Charm by HolidayPlanet
Check out more Cartoon Wine Charms at Zazzle

I did this design last year. My first Easter design, created mostly as a greeting card. The original design was from a public domain image I found, but I did add some original touches. I chose this image because I wanted an illustration of a bunny that was not too “cartoony” or overly cute.

People seem to like this design on wine charms. There are four charms in a set, each charm has a different background color.

Polynesian Art

This design is a homage to the prints often used in Aloha Wear. Black tropical flowers are outlined in pastel colors, accented with tear-drop shaped leaves.

Lapita Cultural Traditions

Polynesia, like Micronesia, stretched back to Lapita cultural traditions. Lapita Culture included parts of the western Pacific and reached as far east as Tonga and Samoa. However much of Polynesia, like the islands of Hawaii, New Zealand, Tahiti, and Easter Island, had only relatively recently been settled by indigenous peoples.

James Baldwin, A Pioneer in American Letters

A novelist, essayist, playwright, and public intellectual, James Baldwin’s writings on the subject of race in America undeniably made him one of the greatest African American writers of the 20th century. As the civil rights movement gained momentum in the two decades following World War II, Baldwin landed squarely in the public eye, and his prose communicated the hope and frustration of the fight for racial equality. In James Baldwin: Early Novels and Stories, editor Toni Morrison draws heavily on Baldwin’s early work, including his first novel Go Tell It on the Mountain, as well as Giovanni’s Room, which was praised by the New York Times for its “unusual candor … and intensity.” As pertinent today as it was some 30 years ago, the fiction found in this collection is powerful, eloquent, and a fitting tribute to a consummate writer.

Although he spent a great deal of his life abroad, James Baldwin always remained a quintessentially American writer. Whether he was working in Paris or Istanbul, he never ceased to reflect on his experience as a black man in white America. In numerous essays, novels, plays and public speeches, the eloquent voice of James Baldwin spoke of the pain and struggle of black Americans and the saving power of brotherhood.

New Year’s Design Using Displacement Masks

For the end of 2015, I wanted to do a special New Year’s design, emphasizing the numerals in the year in a colorful and distinct way. I finally decided on using a Masquerade Motif, with the numerals of the new year and the old year overlaid with a mask and confetti pattern.

PhotoShop Tuts to The Rescue

With a fairly good idea of what I wanted to accomplish, I was lucky enough to find a good tutorial on how to achieve a text effect with an image overlay while learning the basics of using displacement masks. (See Patriotic Text Using Displacement Masks
